Laser hair removal · Channelside, Tampa

Done with
the razor.

Laser hair removal targets the pigment in the follicle, disabling its ability to regrow hair. Because hair cycles, a series is required for lasting reduction.

We treat face and body, and assess skin tone and hair type before planning your series.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin — the pigment that gives hair its color — inside the follicle. The laser's energy is absorbed by that pigment and converted to heat, which disables the follicle's ability to produce new hair while leaving the surrounding skin intact. Built-in cooling protects the surface and keeps each pulse comfortable.

Because hair grows in phases, a single session is never enough. Only follicles in the active growth phase (anagen) hold enough pigment and connection to the root to respond. Hairs in the transitional (catagen) and resting (telogen) phases are not affected, and they cycle into active growth over the following weeks. Spacing sessions to match that rhythm is what produces lasting, cumulative reduction.

Before every series, your Roots provider assesses your skin tone, hair color, hair thickness and any recent sun exposure. Those details determine the wavelength, energy and pulse settings used, so treatment is both effective and appropriate for your skin — and settings are revisited as your hair becomes finer over the course of treatment.

Treatment Areas

We treat both small and large areas on the face and body. On the face, common areas include the upper lip, chin and sideburns — quick sessions that often take only a few minutes. On the body, patients most often treat the underarms, arms, legs, bikini line and full Brazilian, as well as the back and chest, which are especially popular with men.

Each area has its own growth cycle, so session spacing differs. Facial hair tends to cycle faster and is usually treated every four to six weeks, while body areas such as the legs and back are typically spaced six to eight weeks apart. Your plan is built around the areas you choose, and several can be combined in the same visit.

Sensitive areas — the face, bikini and Brazilian, and underarms — are treated with adjusted parameters and extra attention to cooling and comfort. Your provider walks you through what to expect for each area before your first session.

Results vary and are not guaranteed. All treatments begin with a consultation.

Frequently asked

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe a quick hot snap with each pulse. Built-in cooling makes it very tolerable.

How should I prepare?

Shave the area the day before, avoid waxing or plucking for four weeks, and come without a tan.

Does it work on light or grey hair?

Laser needs pigment to work, so it is far less effective on white, grey and very fine blonde hair.

How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?

Most areas need six to eight sessions, spaced four to eight weeks apart depending on the area. Because only hair in the active growth phase responds to each treatment, a series is needed to reach follicles as they cycle. The exact number depends on your hair color, thickness, hormones and the area treated — coarse, dark hair often responds fastest, while hormonally driven facial hair may need more sessions. Some patients choose an occasional maintenance session afterward.

What is the cost of laser hair removal in Tampa?

Cost at Roots depends on the size and number of areas treated and how many sessions your plan includes — a small area like the upper lip is priced very differently from full legs or the back. Most patients purchase a package for a series, which offers better value than individual sessions. We'll give you a clear, itemized quote at your consultation once we've assessed the areas you'd like treated.

Is laser hair removal safe for all skin tones?

Laser hair removal can be performed on a wide range of skin tones when the settings are chosen carefully. Laser works best when there is contrast between the hair and the surrounding skin, so deeper skin tones require more conservative energy and longer wavelengths to protect the skin. That's why every series at Roots begins with an assessment of your skin tone and hair type, and a test spot may be recommended. Tanned skin should be avoided before treatment.
